Donor eggs

Donor eggs are eggs provided by another woman for use in IVF. They may be considered when using one’s own eggs is unlikely to result in a healthy pregnancy, after counselling and medical review.

When donor eggs may be considered

Possible reasons include very low ovarian reserve, premature ovarian insufficiency, repeated poor egg or embryo quality, some genetic situations, or other specialist advice. This list is not exhaustive.

General treatment process

Typically, a donor undergoes stimulation and egg retrieval while the recipient’s uterus is prepared. Eggs are fertilised with partner or donor sperm, embryos are cultured, and a suitable embryo may be transferred. Synchronization and laboratory steps are coordinated by the clinical team.

  • Recipient evaluation and counselling
  • Donor screening as per medical and regulatory requirements
  • Uterine preparation
  • Fertilisation and embryo culture
  • Embryo transfer and follow-up
