High-risk pregnancy: what closer care can mean
A high-risk pregnancy means extra monitoring, not that a healthy outcome is impossible. Learn why some pregnancies need more visits and tests.
“High-risk” describes pregnancies that may need closer observation because of age, medical conditions, twins, previous complications, or findings during antenatal care. It is a planning term, not a prediction.
Why extra visits may be advised Conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, or a history of preterm birth may lead to more frequent checks, additional scans, or involvement of a specialist team. Your plan is individual.
How fertility history may connect Some people conceive after IVF or other treatment. That history is shared with the obstetric team so pregnancy care can be coordinated. IVF itself does not automatically mean a pregnancy is high risk, but associated factors might.
